Be sure to periodically inspect the finish on the door. Stained products usually need to have a top coat reapplied yearly or possibly refinished yearly depending on the amount of exposure to the elements. Periodic inspection of the caulking used to seal the door unit. If the caulk appears to be wearing away, please make sure to reapply caulk in the areas listed on the installation instructions. The door is manufactured with a 2 1/8" bore hole on the face of the door and a 1" drive latch on the edge of the door. If a strike plate is supplied with the lockset for the area around the drive latch, this area will need to be mortised out at the time of installation. Since all locksets are not supplied with the strike plate, this is not done during manufacturing. Please refer to the Door Installation Troubleshooting video in the Video Center. If you continue to have issues after troubleshooting from the video, please fill out an Installed Guest Complaint form which can be printed from menards.com under the guest services tab. The completed Installed Guest Complaint form will need to be mailed to the address on the form along with a copy of the special order contract (if the item was special ordered) or a copy of the receipt (if the item was purchased out of stock). Submitting pictures to clearly illustrate any issues is very helpful.No. The patio doors are constructed with the same materials as our single Prehung doors but they have not undergone testing through a licensed accreditation agency, until the doors are tested they do not qualify for the Energy Star program. The Menard stores sell genuine packaged replacement weather-stripping sets, sweeps, and corner seals in their Millwork department. These items are packaged in Mastercraft packaging. Door bottom sweeps are a wear and tear items and will need to be periodically replaced. If the door unit is received with any of these items damaged, an Installed Guest Complaint form can be filed and vouchers for replacement sets will be sent out.The Menard stores have replacement screw hole covers. You can also submit an email through midwestmanufacturing.com listing the model number and specie (Steel, fiberglass, prefinish fiberglass, etc?) of your door and replacement screw hole covers will be mailed to you. If you do not wish to wait for replacement screw hole covers, the screw holes can be filled with putty (stainable wood putty for fiberglass doors). Please contact Fed Ex and tell them you are the recipient of the package that is damaged. You would like to place a CALL TAG to have the damaged packaged picked up and returned to the shipper. The obscurity rating is a guide to help determine the distortion and how much of the interior of your home you are able to see when viewing from the exterior. The obscurity ratings are subjective to each different window manufacturer. A rating of 0 would be a clear glass and 10 is most obscure. We supply certificates for our Energy Star rated products on our web site. Click here to find your certificate.

With help and considerable patience, Ultradeck can be curved with proper tools and instructions. See your local Retailer of Ultradeck for instructions.No. Coextruded products with a polyethylene coating like Ultradeck Fusion, should not be sanded or routed. In an independent study, Ultradeck was comparable in surface temps to pressure treated boards. While the majority of raw materials that are compounded in the extruding of Ultradeck products are recycled, the technology and process requirements that ensure outstanding performance and beauty are much more advanced then traditional milling equipment.Ultradeck can be dry swept and cleaned with soap and water or any product made for washing composite decking. There is also a How-To-Video on cleaning on our website. View VideoUsing a power washer with greater than 1500 psi and/or applied closer than 12" from the deck surface could damage the decking surface. You should set the nozzle to a fan spray and not aim straight down or directly at the decking. Any issues related to power washing will not be covered under the Ultradeck warranty.Ultradeck can only be installed over a solid surface when using a sleeper system. A sleeper system is a buffer between the solid surface and the decking. Water must be able to flow through and away from the deck and adequate airflow is necessary. You can find Ultradeck samples at your nearest Menards store or ask your contractor.Ultradeck does not need painting or staining to maintain its looks. If desired though only the brushed side of Ultradeck Natural may be stained with a good quality composite deck stain after one year of adequate weathering. Always follow the stain manufacturers recommendations and keep in mind that staining is not a one time application and will add maintenance to your low maintenance decking.Because Ultradeck never rots or warps and painting and staining are not required, however with pressure-treated wood decks, these costs add up over time. After four years, the total cost of owning an Ultradeck deck equals the cost of a pressure-treated wood deck with maintenance. Over the life of the purchase, Ultradeck offers a far greater value than wood. Clean it periodically during the year and you're done so you can spend more time enjoying your outdoor living space, rather than working on it.Ultradeck products should not be ripped to reduce the thickness, but can be ripped to reduce width and length. As long as the board can still be installed per the installation instructions the warranty will be valid. Please use care when fastening ripped boards, as pre-drilling may be necessary.Ultradeck Solid profile routs nicely to give a crisp edge. Because of its hollow profile we do not recommend routing Ultradeck Reversible or Ultradeck Natural.Ultradeck weights about 2.5 lbs. per linear foot for the solid profile and about 1.4 lbs. per linear foot for the reversible profile. We do not recommend sanding. Sanding will change the appearance of the Ultradeck material surface. Any issues related to sanding will not be covered under the Ultradeck warranty.Yes. A Building Materials Team Member at your local Menards store can assist you with any attachment to masonry.Because the wood fiber in Ultradeck will be exposed to weather and sunlight, the product will lighten over time. Ultradeck will achieve its weathered color after 12-16 weeks.Ultradeck is the manufacturer of Ultradeck decking, railing and fencing. Ultradeck is a division of Midwest Manufacturing which has been in business since 1969. Midwest Manufacturing's continual growth has helped it become one of the largest manufacturers of building products in the Midwest. Ultradeck's headquarters and manufacturing facility are located in Eau Claire Wisconsin. As an Ultradeck customer, you can count on us to provide you with reliable products and service at a great price.Ultradeck products have been tested to ensure compliance with the 2006 International Building Code. Check with your local building code department for jurisdictional requirements.Ultradeck products perform with long lasting durability and performance that you can't get from wood. Ultradeck won't rot, wrap, or splinter; and beside from a periodic cleaning require no maintenance.

Our Micro Pro AC2 uses the MCQ (micronized copper quats) formula. The MicroPro system utilizes patent pending micronizing technology to grind copper particles so small that they can penetrate into the wood in solid form. Wood products treated with the MicroPro treated wood process, when compared to current copper-based wood treatments, benefit our guests through lower corrosion of metal fasteners, approval for contact with aluminum, and improved painting and staining qualities because of the wood's lighter color. Our MicroPro formula has earned Environmentally Preferable certification under SCS's Environmentally Preferable Product (EPP Green Cross) program based on Life-Cycle Assessment. All our AC2 Micropro is third party inspected, core samples are sent to a third party inspection agency (the SPIB) from every charge we treat and an inspector is in our treating plants every other week.Yes. Both TPI and SPIB are approved agencies.Wood is a plentiful and economical building material, but, untreated, it is subject to attack by insects, microorganisms and fungal decay. Treated lumber is protected from these natural predators, therefore, projects made with treated products last.Yes, AG (above ground) contact means just that above, not touching the ground. GC (ground contact) means on or in the ground. Most states require a heavier treatment for ground contact when constructing projects such as post frame buildings, a home or even a deck that is attached to a home, thus we also treat to GCS (ground contact structural use).Pressure treatment is a process by which a chemical preservative is forced deep into the wood's cells in a closed cylinder. Following pressure treatment, the preservatives are "fixed" into the wood and will resist leaching into the surrounding soil or water.Yes, treating protects the whole piece. Sometime you will not see green in the center or heartwood of the piece of lumber. This portion of the piece cannot be penetrated and is not required to be as it is naturally protected from attack. No, it doesn't need to be. In fact it is best to stain as early as you can especially if the stain also has a sealer built in. Sealing the wood not only protects the wood from more moisture absorption, it also slows the drying out process which helps to keep the wood more stable reducing cracking, warping and twisting. The way to tell if the deck is ready for stain or sealer is to sprinkle water on top of the wood. If water soaks in; then so will your stain or sealer. If the water beads up (doesn't soak in) then the wood is to wet and the sealer will also not be absorbed.Pressure treated wood can be used outdoors wherever building components require resistance to termites and fungal decay in decks, fences, gazebos, playground equipment, docks, marinas, utility poles, mine shafts, bridges, agricultural stakes, raised garden beds, landscape, agricultural uses and a host of other applications.Treated lumber is not typically dried after treating. When freshly (wet) treated lumber is exposed to the hot sun it will quickly dry on the exposed surface causing shrinking, twisting and warping. It is best to stack treated lumber with spacers between the boards and allow them to dry out some in a shaded area before starting an outdoor project. Banding the boards or weighting down the top of the stack will help to keep the boards in place reducing warping. This is also a good reason to make sure you are rotating the oldest inventory out first as it has had a chance to dry out some. The treating process and the chemical is the same. We only added a pigment to the CedarTone to give it the Cedar color.Yes with ACQ, Osmose is recommending Clean Wood Mold Inhibitor for MCQ Treating to minimize mold growth.Yes. Osmose will supply "Rain Dance NW".We add a moldicide to our chemical when treating. However, it only has a shelf life of about 90 days. Mold can grow on any surface, even vertical vinyl siding. It will grow anywhere moisture is allowed to exist without any direct sunlight or much air movement to dry it up. That is why you will see decks that receive little direct sunlight develop mold, especially if they are near a lake, river or woods. To prevent mold, apply a good sealer. Decks close to the ground should have a moisture barrier on the ground and allow for good air flow. Spaces between the deck boards should be wide enough to allow leaves to slip between them. A periodic washing to remove debris may be necessary. Cupped boards should be turned over to not allow for standing water.Yes - as long as the contacting surface is not continually wet such as on a pontoon or some other application on or in water.

Steel

Generally the materials are delivered in one to three weeks from order date.Check the condition of the material and note any problems on the "Delivery Agreement" or "Bill of Lading" carried by the delivery driver. Compare the bundles of metal with your documents; specifically check quantities, colors and lengths. Note any discrepancies, shortages or problems on the "Delivery Agreement" or "Bill of Lading" carried by the delivery driver. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. There is a number of reasons why buildings come in at different prices, but mainly it is because the two parties involved are not quoting the same building. Be sure to look over your quotes and be sure the lower priced building didn't short you on materials.Metal roofing installed on purlins will create noise during rain and hail storms. This is common with post frame buildings. On houses the metal panel is installed on top of decking with a felt barrier between the metal and the deck (i.e. new construction) or is installed over an existing shingled roof often with a barrier between, such as fan fold insulation.Store indoors, in a dry environment with the bundle sloped enough to let any moisture that might be inside the bundle drain out. Also remove the plastic wrap to let the material "breath." Think of it like a loaf of bread in a plastic wrap sitting on the counter. After time it will mold just like steel will rust.Yes. Saving you time and money in a tear-off and disposal of an existing roof, a lightweight metal roof and be installed over your existing. The speed of installation of sheets will also save in labor costs. It is best to use it as soon as possible. Water can get into a sealed bundle by condensation with the temperature changes common to Midwest weather. This can happen without direct exposure to rain or other sources of water. This trapped moisture in a bundle can damage the paint surface, cause paint failure and even red rust. People often ask how long is too long? This is a hard question to answer because it depends on how much moisture is in the bundle and the warmer the temperature of the bundle the faster the damage occurs.Unlike asphalt shingles, which absorb the sun's rays, metal reflects them. As a result, with a metal roof, your attic space will remain cooler during the day and so does the living space below. So, asphalt shingles will require more energy to maintain a cooler living space. Also, at the end of the day, the metal cools quickly while the asphalt holds that heat.No. With the rising cost of asphalt, the price comparison is becoming closer and closer between metal and shingles. But, the real cost savings is going to be in the life-cycle of the materials. A metal roof will last a lifetime while a shingled roof will need replacing in 10-12 years, if you are lucky.

Trusses
-
Since Post Frame construction is quite different than standard "Stick Built", the trusses often have to meet a different set of requirements. These requirements can come from the design software or local or state building inspectors.Midwest Truss provides our guests with all Truss to Truss hangers, when needed. We also provide a layout and spec sheets with each custom order. We have a large staff of experienced designers and manufacturing sites in 3 states to serve you better. Please click on the link for contact numbers at MM Truss:Post Frame buildings can offer any architectural feature that a stick built building can offer. Vaults, storage trusses, Room in Attic trusses, mezzanines, dormers, valleys, hip sets and lean-to's are all available.No. The most common style is the one sold by Menards. It uses the least material, and is the strongest. Other styles are also used, such as Post and Beam, where the trusses are not always placed directly over the supporting Posts or Columns.Midwest Truss has staff on hand 7 days a week to handle your calls. If you have a damaged truss, detail where the damage is on the spec sheet, bring it to a Menards store and talk with the Team Members. If a repair detail is needed, it can usually be provided within 24 hours. A normal repair costs $75.00, but each case is handled individually.Sealed prints are provided free of charge if the truss is bought. A $15.00 per print fee is charged for any prints that are needed ahead of purchasing the trusses. If the truss is then purchased, the $15.00 fee is refunded out of the truss price.Due to the wide spans and longer On Center spacing's, Post Frame trusses are placed under large loads or stresses. To prevent the trusses from deflecting or bending under these loads, Lateral Braces are applied in key spots. These Lateral Braces keep the trusses straight and vertical, which then allows the trusses to transfer the loads to the walls as they are designed to do.There are 2 main loads that trusses carry: Live Loads, such as snow, wind, or people, and Dead Loads, such as roofing, sheathing, sheetrock, insulation, lights or fans. Some of these loads are applied to the top of the truss (Top Chord) and some are applied to the bottom of the truss (Bottom Chord). Loads are listed as follows: TCLL (Top Chord Live Load), TCDL (Top Chord Dead Load), BCLL (Bottom Chord Live Load), and BCDL (Bottom Chord Dead Load).Yes. Menards and Midwest Manufacturing will work with our guests to arrange for delivery. The best sales tool we have for many of our Menards guests are the Prompt Ship trusses. 40 years of selling trusses has convinced Midwest Manufacturing to stock a wide range of trusses, both Residential and Post Frame. By having these trusses built in large quantities, Menards offers both fast delivery and low price. Convincing our guests to design their building to match our Prompt Ship truss spans will give them the best priced trusses with the fastest delivery. For a complete list of our Prompt Ship trusses, click on the following link:If the Menard style Post Frame building is sold, then Post Frame trusses are needed. There are other styles of Post Frame buildings that place the trusses on a different On Center Spacing then the support Posts, Poles, or Columns. These buildings are not as economically efficient and can be more prone to failure.Agricultural buildings were the mainstay of Post Frame for decades, but now Industrial and Commercial buildings are switching to the Post Frame style due to the great value. There are even some residential Post Frame buildings. In most cases, trusses work great on additions. Some additional measurements may be needed to insure that the new trusses blend in with the old framing. Span, heel height, pitch and overhang length may need to be verified.A heated building will transfer some heat up thru the roof, which drives the moisture from the snow. This makes the accumulated snow lighter, which allows for a lighter load and a truss that costs less money.Truss reps are available if there is a major problem. Most problems can be handled over the phone or with a Menards Team Member. The widest a wooden truss can be built and delivered is 120'. By adding rows of Posts or Columns, trusses can be placed end to end, allowing for buildings hundreds of feet wide. There is no length limit on a Post Frame building.A Spec sheet for a truss contains most of the engineering information about the truss as well as other information such as material, dimensions, OC spacing, loads and codes.A building that derives its strength from a series of Posts, Poles, or Columns usually embedded into the ground at specified On Center spacings. These Posts, Poles, or Columns then hold up the roof system, usually trusses. Additional supports are added to the sidewalls (Girts) and roof (Purlins) which allows the Steel siding and roofing to be attached.No. Layout sheets are provided with custom orders. If the trusses are ordered off of a list and not a plan, then no layout will be provided. Spec sheets are available for every truss MM Truss builds, custom or Prompt Ship.Call 715.876.3204Trusses are less expensive than hand framing and use less lumber and less labor to install on the building. Trusses also span greater distances between bearings which allows architects to design many unique features into a trussed building that would not be possible with hand framing. If your plan has been done electronically, then you can E-Mail it to Truss@MidwestManufacturing.com. Please include the Menards store you will be working with, as that is where the quote will be sent. Note any changes to the plan. If your plan is hand drawn, take it to a Menards store and talk with the estimator.Knee braces help provide a rigid connection between the end of the truss and the top of the Post or Column. The triangle provided by the knee brace prevents the building from racking or shifting. Small buildings or buildings that have a Deep Heel truss may not need Knee Braces. A Deep Heel truss has enough height at the Truss to wall connection to prevent the racking or shifting.Provide Midwest with the plan and quote. We will want to compare the 2 quotes to insure that they are for the same products.A truss is an engineered product designed to carry roof or floor loads out to bearings. A truss is manufactured from custom cut components which are connected together using metal truss plates. Residential roof trusses are usually installed at 2' On Center (OC), Post Frame trusses up to 10' OC and Floor Trusses are used at 12", 16", 19.2" or 24" OC depending on the depth and span.In general terms, a Post Frame truss is placed at more than 2' On Center, up to 10' On Center. Roof Purlins, which run perpendicular to the trusses, are placed on top of or in between the top of the trusses to support the roof. Purlins are usually 24" or less On Center. The roofing material, preferably steel panels, is attached to the Purlins.Building codes, project budgets, personal preferences and building use are just some of the determining factors for On Center spacing. The On Center spacing of the trusses can affect the Posts or Columns, along with Purlins (for the roof) and Girts (for the walls).Call 715.876.3204

This decision would depend on your use for the building. An overhead door with a door opener will give you more security while a sliding door will be a better choice for livestock or larger openings.Yes. All buildings are designed with our guests input budget and needs. Our Team Members will work with you on construction ideas along with your own design ideas.No. Depending on the purpose of the building you have the option to insulate your building at time of construction, at a later date or not at all.Generally the materials are delivered in one to three weeks from order date.Modern post-frame construction consists of clear span wood trusses supported on each end by a post or column. This frame is held together by interlocking wood purlins, a-top the trusses, wall girts and exterior sheathing. Loads are transferred from the trusses to the post/columns and then to the foundation.Always use a good sealer to protect your new investment. There are many sealers out there to choose from. Ask your friendly Menards team member about sealant options. The diaphragm-type design is proven and tested. Also remove the plastic wrap to let the material "breath." Think of it like a loaf of bread in a plastic wrap sitting on the counter. After time it will mold just like steel will rust.Check with the company's industry associations and references. Ask to see past and current projects. WFBA, NFBA, and Energy Star just a few. These associations require proven commitment to higher standards and help keep companies up to date with research and developments in the industry.Ventilation requirements will vary on the intended use of the building and should be discussed with your building specialist. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. There is a number of reasons why buildings come in at different prices, but mainly it is because the two parties involved are not quoting the same building. Be sure to look over your quotes and be sure the lower priced building didn't short you on materials.Bare galvanized panels should be installed immediately and not stored outside for any period of time, especially in hot weather. There is an oily film applied to bare galvanized panels to keep them from turning blotchy black when they are exposed to ultra violet rays from the sun. Properly handled bare galvanized panels will gradually change from the bright silver to a dark gray over time. If not installed immediately, the oily or wet panels will develop a white stain known as white rust. This can happen quickly in hot weather and will take longer in cold. Bare galvanized panels installed immediately will age correctly while stored or sitting panels will have this damage occur. As long as you plan for it, it doesnt matter.A level site is preferred and will save time and money during and after construction. If the floor, dirt or concrete, has more than 6-8 inches in difference on the site, there will be gaps under the bottom of the building. Also, the materials ordered and on site may not work.

Fencing
-
The pickets and back rails are treated to a .10 ground contact. The fence post are typically cemented into the ground. This will insure the fence from tipping. The Pole needs to be placed 1/3 of the length in the ground. Use a diameter of 10"-12" for all postholes. The gate posts, end posts, and corner posts need to be 6" deeper than the other posts. The recommendation would be to use a treated post and cement it in the ground.Fences are installed 2" off the ground.

Yes. Our composite fencing carries the same warranty as our UltraDeck composite decking and railing. The effect that heat has on composite fencing is similar to the effect it has on a pressure treated wood fence.Attaching Fence Boards- with composite fencing we recommend a good quality composite screw. Color matched screws are available wherever composite fencing is soldAttaching Post Caps- composite fencing has decorative post caps that may be secured with an exterior adhesive or caulk.Attaching Support Rails (Mounting Between Posts) - Attach using composite fencing color-matched rail brackets. Brackets come with color matched screws. Pre-drilling is not required with most applications. The great thing about composite fencing is its design versatility. Because it is sold as components composite fencing offers the same installation flexibility as traditional wood fencing. Instructions for styles such as Privacy, Shadowbox, Scalloped and Basket Weave are available at Menard stores. Full size composite fencing displays can also be seen at most Menard locations. Because composite fencing is able to be purchased in components other custom designs are easily achieved with a little imagination. Here is a list of the components we offer:- Hickory Brown Fence Boards

Yes, our composite fencing may be used in conjunction with a wood substructure.Glue or caulk is not required or recommended to be used with composite fencing products. However, decorative post caps may be secured with an exterior adhesive or caulk.Yes, you can wash your composite fencing with a power washer. A maximum 1200 psi at least 12" away is recommended for fencing products. A fan tip nozzle should be used, and spray in the direction of the grain/fence board to avoid damaging the surface of your fence. Use caution not to damage the material, and always take the proper safety precautions when operating a power washer. Our composite fencing was designed for a maximum span of 6' center-to-center of the posts. As recommended by the American Fencing Association, three support rails are required for each section fence with an overall height of 5'-6'. For an overall height of 4' or less, two support rails are required. Our composite fencing along with UltraDeck is offered at all Menards stores. Full size composite fencing displays can be seen at most Menard retailers. The benefit of using our color matched rail bracket is simply ease of installation. Rail brackets also give increased structural stability.Scratches and nicks will weather to a similar match in 8-10 weeks; the time frame will vary based on exposure and climate.Although low-maintenance, composite fencing components may require periodic cleaning to help maintain the beauty of the product. Frequency of cleaning requirements will vary by region and environment. For periodic cleaning, use soap and water or any product made for washing a composite material.Yes, because composite fencing will not splinter, warp or fade the way wood does. It dramatically reduces the wasteful cycle of repair and replacement. Composite fencing, is manufactured with recycled wood materials that would otherwise go into landfills. In addition, composite fencing is able to be made from recycled byproducts produced in our manufacturing facility. Composite fencing does not require painting, staining or sealing. Our composite fencing cuts just like wood. All composite fencing products can be cut with a circular saw. No special care or treatment is required on the cut edges. It is recommended that a carbide tip blade be used. Our composite fencing is available in a rich, Hickory Brown color.Fence boards should be attached with two screws at each rail.Yes. The post cover can be set at grade level. A structural post must be used in conjunction with post covers.Ultradeck the makers of our composite fencing does not recommend painting and cannot guarantee the performance of anything applied to the product. Painting and staining takes away from the low-maintenance benefits of composite fencing, and once the fencing is painted, stained or sealed, subsequent applications will be necessary to maintain appearance.Although low-maintenance, composite fencing components may require periodic cleaning to help maintain the beauty of the product. Frequency of cleaning requirements will vary by region and environment.Since our composite fencing is made of the same material as Ultradeck decking, the same cleaning methods apply.Yes. Our composite fence boards will route just like wood.Yes. Most materials exposed to UV and weathering will fade.
