Guide for construction of 10/12x12, 10/12x14, and 10/12x16 Do-It-Yourself Shed.
-
Consult local building code requirements for concrete slab on grade specifications and utility easements.
-
Lay out perimeter of shed using string and batter boards (See illustration). Set concrete forms, checking for level and squareness. Place reinforcing mesh and other reinforcement as may be required. Pour, strike and float finish concrete slab. Place anchor bolts into slab with 3" of thread protruding from slab. Place 1-3/4" from edge of slab and 1' from each corner and wall opening. Then place an anchor bolt every 4' on center. Open area for door locations need no anchors.
-
Frame walls and apply sheathing or siding as shown in illustrations. Allow 4' sheathing joints to fall on studs. Personalize your building with the optional walk door and/or windows and frame accordingly. Rough openings according to manufacturer's directions.
-
Place 12' trusses 24" on center using a 2x4 temporary brace. On 10' wide building, cut truss tails to 12" on both sides. This will maintain the 1' overhang as shown.
-
Make sure trusses are plumb and square, then apply roof sheathing. Be sure to stagger end joints at least two truss spaces. Follow edge and joint spacing recommendations as stamped on sheathing.
-
OPTIONAL STEEL ROOF
Follow manufacturer's application for laying steel. Apply soffit, L-6 fascia trim or 1x6 board, and metal drip edge before placing roof steel.
-
Install Roll-up, Double Door, or Walk door according to manufacturer's directions.
-
Apply garage door jamb and brickmold trim.
-
Apply soffit and fascia. When using a metal roof apply L-6 fascia and soffit panels.
-
Apply metal drip edge, felt and shingles according to manufacturer's directions.
-
Apply siding and trim according to manufacturer's directions. Paint or stain wood siding, trim, soffit, and fascia to the color of your choice.
