Installation For Weatherstrip System
Skill Level: Beginner
-
Remove existing weatherstrip
Remove the existing weatherstrip. Pull the top of the latch weatherstrip away from the door jamb and down toward the floor. Fully remove the latch weatherstrip and repeat this process with the hinge and header weatherstrip.(Picture 1)
-
(Optional) Remove existing caulk
(optional) Carefully remove any caulk or sealant on top of the threshold against the jamb with a putty knife or scraper. A fresh bead of caulk will help ensure a weather-tight seal of your new weatherstrip system. With all old caulk removed, apply a fresh bead of high-quality exterior-grade caulk along the top of both sides of the threshold where it meets the jamb. (Picture 2)
-
Insert head jamb weatherstrip
Insert the base of the header jamb magnetic weatherstrip into the kerf on the header jamb, butting it tightly against the latch jamb. Hold the weatherstrip in place and insert the remainder of the weatherstrip by applying light pressure while pushing its base into the kerf of the header jamb. Trim the end of the header weatherstrip with scissors or tin snips so it fits tight against the hinge jamb. To ensure a proper seal, make sure the header weatherstrip butts tightly against the latch and hinge jambs.(Pictures 3 & 4)

Insert latch jamb weatherstrip
Insert the base of the latch jamb magnetic weatherstrip into the kerf on the latch jamb butting it tightly against the threshold. Hold the weatherstrip in place. Insert the remainder of the weatherstrip by applying light upward pressure pushing it's base into the kerf working up the latch jamb. Trim the end of the latch weatherstrip with scissors or tin snips so it fits flush against the header weatherstrip. To ensure a proper seal, make sure the latch weatherstrip butts against the header weatherstrip.

Hold the weatherstrip in place and insert the remainder of the weatherstrip by applying light upward pressure while pushing its base into the kerf of the hinge jamb. Trim the end of the weatherstrip with scissors or tin snips, so it fits flush against the header weatherstrip.(Picture 5)

Place corner seals
Remove the peel-off backing from a white corner seal. Place the seal against the latch jamb so that the edge of the seal is against the magnetic weatherstrip and the bottom of the seal is pushed into the bead of caulk. When properly positioned, push the seal firmly against the jamb. Repeat with the second corner seal on the hinge jamb.(Picture 6)
