Are you buying the most energy efficient door for your home?

1. What is the U-Factor?
The numbers look small, but a 0.12 U-Factor Mastercraft® 6-Panel Steel Door is 29.5% more energy efficient than our competitors 0.17 U-Factor doors.

2. What is the core material?
Unlike styrene cores that are stamped out leaving voids throughout the door, polyurethane cores are blown into the door to ensure every square inch of the door is properly insulated.

3. What are the rails made of?
Doors that utilize steel components between the inner and outer skins are more prone to frost issues, rust and mold. Composite materials create a thermal break and reduce the amount of thermal conductance.

4. What is the door skin made of?
If the core material is the same, steel doors tend to be more energy efficient than fiberglass due to the increased amount of foam that can be placed inside the door.

A number of tax credits for residential energy efficiency have been renewed. These tax credits are available for purchases made in 2016, as well as retroactive to purchases made in 2015. ENERGY STAR ® products eligible for tax credits are independently certified to save energy, save money and protect the environment. Use up to 30% less energy in your home by outfitting it with ENERGY STAR products available across more than 70 categories. *The tax credit information contained within this website is provided for informational purposes only and is not intended to substitute for expert advice from a professional tax/financial planner or the IRS.

This tax credit is for ENERGY STAR certified metal and asphalt roofs with pigmented coatings or cooling granules designed to reduce heat gain.

Tax Credit Amount: 10% of cost

Note: There is a total combined credit limit of $500 for all purchases/improvements for all years since 2005. For purposes of figuring the roof credit, do not include labor costs.

How to receive the tax credit
1.) Confirm that the metal roof you select meets or exceeds the Energy Star® program requirements and has appropriate pigmented coatings which are specially and primarily designed to reduce the heat gain of your home. Print the MM Steel Energy Star certification.
2.) Verify the metal roof was installed between January 1, 2015 and December 31, 2015 or January 1, 2016 and December 31, 2016.
3.) Fill out IRS Form 5695 when filing your taxes for 2015 or 2016.
